The Fay Weldon Lecture 2025 will be given by Francesca Beauman, the author, historian and managing director of Persephone Books, the Bath-based imprint dedicated to republishing neglected women novelists.

In this lecture Francesca will address the afterlife of women's writing, its reception, influence and perspective on cultural shifts and political change.

This annual public lecture series was launched by Bath Spa University in 2023 to continue the legacy of Fay Weldon CBE, the novelist and renowned literary figure, who was Professor of Creative Writing from 2012 to 2021.

There will be a facilitated Q&A session with Francesca Beauman after the talk. The event is in person and free to all.

This event is part of the Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 6 - 15 November 2025. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
