Maria Nita
Senior Lecturer in Humanities Transformative Communities
I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Educational Academy in the UK, with expertise in the historical and ethnographic study of religion in Europe. My current research is centred on the study of religion, culture and environmentalism, specifically the links between climate action, adaptation and resilience in multicultural, multifaith and immigrant communities in the UK and Romania.
I am particularly interested in the development of new arts-based practices that support socio-ecological transitions to sustainable food. My research has application in social enterprises involving sustainable living in urban environments. In recent years I have engaged in a variety of knowledge exchange associations concerned with sustainable food through external collaborations with a diversity of partners, such as the Forest of Imagination and Being Human festival in Bath.
Presently, I am working on a new manuscript accepted for publication for the Routledge Earthscan series, titled ‘The Climate Movement in Britain and European Green Cultures of Resistance’ (forthcoming 2026).
