Senior Lecturer in Education Policy

Eri Mountbatten-O’Malley

I am a Senior Lecturer in Education Policy at Bath Spa University, where I’ve worked for four years, having previously completed my PhD and lectured at Edge Hill University. My work explores how the humanities can promote human flourishing across education, policy, and society.

In 2024, I published a research monograph on human flourishing, connecting insights from education, public policy, and psychology. With AHRC Impact Accelerator funding, I founded FlourishCafé, a social enterprise using creative dialogue methods—such as the World Café—to explore what flourishing means in community, business, and academic settings. This has included collaborations with AI experts to assess the role of technology in creative dialogue.

I co-lead the Bath & Bristol branch of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain (PESGB), which hosts regional events on philosophical issues in education, including the 2025 “Re-thinking Dissent in Education” event with Professor Gert Biesta. I also co-lead EduCafe, which brings staff and students together to discuss educational topics—from neurodivergence and gender to neoliberalism and anarchy—in a relaxed, creative setting.

Across all my work, I champion the humanities and liberal arts as vital spaces for meaning, dialogue, and resistance in an era of metrics and managerialism.
